Our History

Although our club was established in Australia in 1991, its origins date back much further than that.

The “Aurora” in Arncliffe reflects the visions of many of our community’s parents, grand parents and ancestors whose origins are from Lebanon.

With the large influx of migrants in the 1960’s and 1970’s came a large contingent of families from south Lebanon. With them they brought the “fajr” spirit.

The word “fajr” is an Arabic word defined as the rising of the sun. (i.e. aurora). This word was also used to describe the youth who were growing up as the shining lights of the future.

This “fajr” spirit was a part of their lives as they too had a sporting club fostering and nurturing youth.

Today, the “fajr” spirit is still alive in Arncliffe Aurora where our commitment to our youth is as strong today, as it was back in South Lebanon in the early 1960’s.

Today we have players of various ethnic backgrounds believing in the “Aurora” spirit.

We are immensely proud of our history, but also celebrate our position within our community and within the wider Australian society.
